We ask the Staff: What is your favourite spot in Dolphin Square?

Neil Miller-Chalk, General Manager

“I’ve got two really. One has to be The Spa, purely because of the immediate down time it gives you as soon as you walk through the door. The second one, of course, is the bees (Neil is beekeeper to a hive on site). I love to go up and work with the bees.”

Like many other staff members, Neil is also fond of spending time in the gardens. “How many people [in central London] have the opportunity to take a sandwich and a coffee out to the garden and sit in the sun trap and look at the fountain? I mean, you just don’t get that in London.”

Carole Godfrey, Finance Executive and Dolphin Square’s Longest Serving Employee

“I’d say the dolphin in the middle of the garden. When I was about 21 and used to go swimming in my lunch break, I met a young boy at the pool. He phoned me one day and said ‘Could you meet me by the dolphin?” I went there and he asked me out. We didn’t. He was lovely but I was with someone.”

Darren Jikiemi, Head Chef, Dolphin Bar and Grill

“Probably the kitchen because that’s my domain, you know, in the kitchen I’m king. It’s where I’m comfortable; anybody can ask me a question, ‘Chef, have we got one of these?’, and I can immediately say in robotic style, it’s on the second shelf, top left. I instinctively know every square inch of that place. I spend a lot of hours in there.”

Mark Hintz, Commis Chef, Dolphin Bar and Grill

“In the summer I like the gardens where you’ve got the fountain, because it’s nice to sit down on the bench have a cup of coffee and you’ve got the sound of the fountain, and the flowers. It’s nice to sit out there, quite relaxing. The square is enclosed as well – it’s secluded.”

 Michael Deville, Head Gardener

“It’s a hard one, I’ve never really thought of it and there’s so many good places. I think my hut, the tea hut where I sit looking out into the garden. That’s fantastic, with a bit of Radio 4 playing. It’s all very civilised, all very English.”
